Summary of the Trash Ordinance

  • All trash must be placed curbside no earlier than 6:30 pm the night before your trash collection day and no later than 6:30 am of your trash collection day. All cans must be removed from the curbside no later than 7:00 pm of your trash collection day.
  • All garbage and trash must be placed in suitable containers or bundled not exceeding 35 gallons in container size or 50 pounds in total weight. Paper bags or cardboard boxes are not suitable containers for garbage and trash. Rolled items, such as carpets, carpet padding, pool liners, fencing must be no longer than 4 feet in length and not to exceed 50 pounds in weight and must be bundled and tied.
  • Please seperate recycable materials, glass, plastic and cardboard, from your garbage and trash. Recycables must be placed in suitable containers or bundled curbside no later than 6:30 am on your designated recycling day.
  • The litter receptacles located in the parks and playgrounds, etc. are for pedestriangenerated litter only and are not to be used for disposing of household or commercial garbage/trash.
  • There will be no collection of any barrels (55 gallon drums, etc.) containing but not limited to: construction debris, earth, plaster, cement/broken concrete, brick, lumber stone, dirt, etc.
  • Cleanup of leaves, grass, vines, roots, shrubs, etc. (other than during the spring and fall leaf collection program) should be put in cans or bagged for collection on your regular trash day. Vegetative waste is not to be raked into the gutter except during the above mentioned spring and fall collection program.
  • Tree trimings and brush, which has been cut by the homeowner, are to be placed curbside for chipping, starting on the first and third Monday of the month and ends when one complete pass has been made through the Township of Greenwich. All roots and dirt must be removed in order to be chipped.
  • All yard and brush waste, including but not limited to tree clipings, stumps, etc., which is generated by a contractor shall be disposed of by the contractor by private means.
  • Discarded items with concrete attached, such as pipes and posts, shall have the concrete broken off and the item shall be placed curbside for collection.
  • Construction debris generated by a contractor or homeowner will not be removed by the Township of Greenwich. Disposal is the responsibility of the contractor or homeowner doing the work: this includes but not limited to concrete, block, bricks, stone, lumber, etc.
