FIREARMS APPLICATION INFORMATION
We are now accepting all firearms applications electronically via the New Jersey State Police Firearms Application & Registration System (FARS). We encourage applicants to utilize the new FARS system as we will be phasing out paper applications in the near future.
In order to process your application online, you will need the following information:
- Greenwich Township’s ORI Number: NJ0080700
- Applicant’s Personal Identifiers: Full legal name, Driver License Number, Social Security Number, State Bureau of Investigation Number (SBI) if applicable
- Email Addresses for Applicant and References (reference letters will be sent electronically so ALL references MUST have access to a valid email address)

Paper Application Process
If you have NEVER applied for a Firearms Purchaser Identification Card or Permit to Purchase a Handgun in New Jersey, you MUST be fingerprinted to process the application. There is a fee of $56.05 for this service that you will pay directly to the NJ State Police's authorized vendor, IdentoGo. You must pay the fingerprinting fee when you call or go online to schedule your appointment. If you are applying for a Duplicate Firearms Purchasers Identification Card, Change of Address on Firearms Purchasers Identification Card, and/or Permit to Purchase a Handgun and have previously been issued a Firearms Purchasers Identification Card by this police department or another police department in New Jersey, you must submit an online form SBI 212A at the following web address: https://www.njportal.com/njsp/criminalrecords/ .
Be sure to use ORI # NJ0080700 for Greenwich Township (Gibbstown) residents. The fee for submitting the SBI 212A online is $21.00 and is payable through the website only.
On your application for firearms you must provide the name, address, and telephone number of two reputable persons who are presently acquainted with the applicant. A Consent for Mental Health Records Search form must accompany every application for Initial Firearms Purchasers ID Card, Duplicate Firearms Purchasers ID Card, Permit to Purchase a Handgun, Request for Change of Address on Firearms Purchasers ID Card, and Permit to Carry Handgun.
Upon completion of the SBI 212A form, print the confirmation page for your records (this department will be notified electronically of your submission). Bring the completed firearm application and Consent for Mental Health Records Search form to the police department to be processed. Applications will be accepted in person at the Greenwich Township Police Department during regular business hours (Monday thru Friday 8 am - 4 pm).
